Rules & Regulations of CBSE Board

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has revolutionized the landscape of school education in India. As the oldest and most prestigious national education board, CBSE has contributed immensely to academic consistency and growth, providing affiliation to numerous schools across the country and abroad.
Initially established in 1921 as the Uttar Pradesh Board of High School and Intermediate Education, the board came under central jurisdiction in 1929 and was later renamed the CBSE. It was reorganized in 1962 to meet the needs of children of government employees who frequently relocated due to job transfers. Today, CBSE caters to students from LKG to Class 12 and ensures a standardized education framework that is recognized both nationally and internationally.

The CBSE Board Conducts Two Major Board Examinations:

All India Secondary School Examination (AISSE) – for Class X

All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE) – for Class XII

Interlinked Objectives of CBSE:

  • To develop a system of assessments for Class X and Class XII.
  • To prepare students for higher academic and professional pursuits.
  • To make the examination system more student-friendly, innovative, and efficient.
  • To affiliate educational institutions with the aim of raising academic standards.

Key CBSE Rules & Regulations to be Followed by Affiliated Schools:

  • Admission is only allowed to students from recognized boards or through an approved qualifying examination.
  • Students must meet minimum and maximum age limits set by the board or State Government.
  • A valid School Leaving/Transfer Certificate signed by the last attended institution must be produced at admission.
  • All necessary documents must be presented at the time of admission.
  • The CBSE board lays down the scheme of examination and pass criteria for all affiliated schools.
  • Exams are conducted annually with periodic internal assessments.
  • From Class IX onward, students must meet minimum academic criteria to appear for the All India Examinations.
  • Final board exams are held in Class X and Class XII only.
  • CBSE specifies the number of papers, exam duration, and marking scheme in its curriculum framework.
  • Assessments include theory and practical exams, depending on the subject.
